Choose a cookbook, gardening book or home decorating guide to slip in a gift basket.

Giving a gift basket is an easy solution for many occasions. Ready-made baskets can be personalized with the addition of a few items chosen especially for a recipient. Books are a wonderful way to complement other items in a basket for a specific theme.

The Cookbook Basket

For cooks, whether professional or home cooks, a basket of gourmet foods, such as quality olive oil, a beautiful wooden spoon set, good coffee beans, new apron and homemade jam can accompany a cookbook any food lover will appreciate. Try The Foodie Handbook, which will appeal to both cooks and food connoisseurs.

The Gardener's Basket

People who garden can never have enough books. While plenty of gardening tips can be found online, most gardeners enjoy the opportunity to sit outside and leaf through a book while surrounded by the fruits of their labor. Fill a gardener's basket with organic seeds, gardening gloves, clogs, garden hat and a book that will answer all of their questions. The Veggie Gardener's Answer Book is small, so it fits easily into a basket, and a useful guide for new and experienced gardeners alike.

A Decorator's Basket

Most decorators begin their work by searching for inspiration, and there's no better place than a book devoted to the craft to find new decorating ideas for a room. Feng Shui for Dummies will give home decorators ideas for attracting wealth, peace and happiness. Look to the book for basket-filler ideas, such as a small plant, mirror or wind chime.

Books for Crafters

A crafter's specialty offers plenty of opportunities for gifts.

  • General Crafters – Pictorial Webster's Dictionary, Wall Cards and Stamp Set makes a beautiful gift in itself. Nestled into a basket among books that feature other crafts, this is a gift that will help inspire a crafter to begin a new project.
  • Embroidery – Embroidered Effects is a modern take on embroidery for anyone who enjoys stitching. Include needles and colorful yarns with some beautiful fabric to help motivate a stitcher.
  • Candle Making – The Candlemakers Companion will teach newbies how to make candles at home. Surround this practical and useful guide with any number of materials that are necessary to start candle making, such as soy wax, fragrance oils, wicks and jars.
  • Handyman – Easy to Build Backyard Projects can be combined with a few hand tools or a fancy new electric one, a tool belt, goggles, fine paint brush and a gift certificate to the local lumber yard.

All the books mentioned here are reviewed in depth at this site, and can be purchased online. A book all on its own is gift enough even without the basket and amenities. Reference and inspirational books will be treasured for years, making them much appreciated gifts.
