Hair loss is a frightening condition that is growing among women, but can be stopped and even reversed with the proper treatment.

Men have been losing their hair with age for so long that the condition of baldness is rarely questioned. Some even find it sexy. But a balding woman is rarely embraced with such enthusiasm. Hair loss in women, once rare, is a growing concern. The earlier treatment is sought, the less hair will be lost, so finding an early solution is important.

Rogaine for Women

When Rogaine first appeared, it was marketed towards men only. Finally, FDA approval was granted for women at a reduced strength. While women can use the stronger men's version, FDA approval was not granted for women because of potential side effects, such as facial hair growth.

he main ingredient, Minoxidil, is used at 2 percent in the women's version, and 5 percent in the men's. This is the only difference. Prescriptions are no longer required, and generic versions can be purchased for a substantial price reduction. Try Rogaine for four months and see if new hair growth is noted. If so, this is an effective treatment for hair loss, but all of the hair lost will not be restored, so it is best to begin early.

Natural Home Remedies

Sometimes hair appears thin because it is breaking, which can happen to damaged hair. Here are some home remedies that can help with this problem.

  • Avoid Over-styling: Lots of processing and styling can damage the hair shaft causing it to break easily.

  • Keep a Healthy Diet: Poor nutrition can also cause unhealthy hair. Eat a balanced diet free of processed and fast foods.

  • Supplement Nutrition: Take a high-quality multivitamin specifically designed for hair.

  • Brewer's Yeast: Brewer's Yeast is high in trace minerals and Bj-complex vitamins which enrich the hair follicles necessary for production of healthy new hair. Mix a tablespoon into a glass of juice for a hair-healthy drink.

  • Avoid Hair Color: Anyone who's colored her hair is familiar with the extra loss that happens after coloring. Skip it all together, use a natural color or get by with a color glaze to cover gray if need be.

  • Medical Check: See a doctor to determine if something specific, such as hormonal changes, could be causing hair loss. If no determination can be made as to the cause, try the remedies here. They have helped many women regain or retain their hair. Don't let embarrassment create a state of denial. Early treatment is best.
